Saving Money When Making International Voip Calls

By Saul Saresi

So the decision has been made, and you are now the proud owner of an IP telephone system complete with your very own specialised Voip phone. You're feeling good about things, such as all the money you'll now be saving each time you make a call, and how good it will be to talk to people with perfect, crystal clear audio quality and no risk of bad reception.

But the world of internet telephony is a big one, and there are still some things that you're not completely sure about, and feel that you need to be bought up to speed on. And so here is a party-trick sized nugget of knowledge known only by a privileged few. How to save money making international calls.

International calls are either something you do a lot or something you barely think of. But regardless of your business or current requirements, no-one knows what the future may bring, and so knowing how to save significant costs when making international calls through your internet system will, at some point, almost certainly come in handy.

The basic process for making international calls via an internet telephony system is much the same as it is with a standard phone system. But this is where the similarities end. Making international call with a Voip phone is not only substantially cheaper as standard, there is also an way to make the calls even cheaper still; by purchasing you're very own unique phone number in a whole other country.

Confused? You needn't be. The concept is actually quite simple, and involves nothing more than purchasing your own unique phone number in the country you wish to call. A number of companies already offer this service, with more set to jump on the bandwagon as demand for the service increases. Once you have purchased a new number in the country you wish to call, all calls to any other number in that country will appear to be coming from inside that country, meaning they will be charged at local rate. Simple.

It is also much cheaper to make international conference calls using a Voip system, due to the fact that internet telephony uses a dial-out, as opposed to a dial-in system. A 'dial-in' system requires each participant calling into the conference via a specific number. With an internet telephone system, however, the conference call operator will dial out to each participant separately, absorbing the cost of each international call.

As anyone with an eye on future events will contest, internet telephony is the future of telecommunications, wherever you are in the world. But despite this there are still a large number of people weary of making the jump quite yet, which is why a new range of dual mode handsets are available, allowing you to utilise both the internet or a landline in order to make and receive calls.

The advantages of this technology are clear, and the future of telecommunications is wholly apparent for anyone and everyone to see. And although it may still be some years before the majority of people are operating this system, the time will come, and when it does all of the non-believers will be wondering why they didn't embrace Voip technology sooner.
