Something For Everyone, New York Attractions

By Adrianna Noton

There are several places people want to visit on their vacations and one of them is listed as the top vacation destination: New York attractions and everything the Big Apple has to offer. There is a little bit of excitement for everyone, no matter their taste. From museums to statues and Broadway shows, everyone in the family will have a good time in the city that never sleeps.

Tourists to the city can't miss the tallest building, one of the largest in the country. The Empire State Building is designed as office space but has more of a tourist appeal to it with the observation deck and the wonderful view. Many people say they could feel the building sway just a little. The people who are afraid of heights and don't want to climb the stairs, ride the elevators or the escalators either have to exit the building or go into one of the several shops or boutiques at the bottom. For safety reasons, they do not allow people to stand around and wait for people.

Possible one of the most photographed and most famous parts of the city is Times Square. It has been featured in hundreds of movies and television shows. Everyone is familiar with the large teletron video screen and all the advertisements in addition to the decorative red wire fence down the middle of the street. There are many people and things to do and see in this center of the city. Probably seeing a show, shopping or eating is the most popular activities in this area.

After a Broadway show, unlike a movie, a family could stand at the stage door on the side of the building and wait for their favorite actor or actress to come out and they could ask for their autograph. The Broadway shows are like nothing else if one has never seen them. Live performances are so much better than a screen and tape. There are so many different kinds of plays, musicals and dramas that make a person think.

Some people want to see where their ancestors came when they first migrated to the US. That would be Ellis Island and they give tours all day long. A boat takes people to the island and there are many well-educated tour guides that help people with any questions about what purpose the place served and how it worked. Ellis Island is a tribute to all those people who are now entering our country for a better life and don't know the customs or the language.

The great Niagara Falls is not within walking distance, one must drive a short distance outside of the city to get there but it is worth the trouble. It is a beautiful waterfall and there are plenty of rain-ponchos on hand so no one will get wet. Pictures taken at the falls often feature a rainbow and sometimes a wedding or two is taking place depending on the day. A small boat will take tours of people up to the falls at the bottom and then they could walk behind the falls for a little ways. There is a view from the top of the falls and one from the bottom of the falls. There is also a souvenir shop.

One of the most famous ladies in America is in the harbor of this big city, the Statue of Liberty. A lot of people like to see her from the sky in a helicopter and they could also view many of the other places and the skyline. Many of the statues levels are closed to the public for safety reasons; however there are some that remain open for a nice view of the city.

Many family's like to pay their respects to the fallen men and women who died on September 11, 2001 so the visit Ground Zero. There is a memorial there and then people leave small tokens for loved ones or strangers or the heroes who helped to save the millions of people who made it out safely. It is always a highlight as one of the New York Attractions to say that you were able to visit the sacred ground where the country came together and helped one another like never before.
