By Adriana Noton

These days technological changes are moving at a very high pace. This means that new gadgets are introduced every other day replacing the older gadgets. This is why computers, cell phones and other gadgets are finding their way in to landfills. Remember, these gadgets contain hazardous materials such as cadmium, mercury and lead. One of the best ways to counter such pollution is computer repair and recycling.

Even with this option, you will realize that repairing your computer repeatedly can be very expensive compared to disposing the computer for a new one. Additionally, in most cities in Canada, there are few shops which can take your old computer dismantle it and place the parts in special containers for disposal or recycling. Even in cases where these services are available, you will most likely be charged a fee for the safe disposal. This leads many people to be stuck with their old computers for long.

Although this is the case, there are simple steps which you can take to lighten the burden of recycle. For the operational units, donation to organizations such as churches, schools and charities or any other organization that accepts donations can be an easier option. In case the computer is broken, you can donate the parts and peripheral devices such as the keyboard, mouse and others.

Another way is to repair or repair the old computer making it more usable. Remember, eve when the computer is not operational, not all the parts are broken. You can therefore repair the non functional ones allowing you to continue using the computer or if you choose to donate it, it will be readily accepted.

Leasing the computer instead of buying one is also a better choice as it increases the chances of recycle. This is because once you are through using the computer or when you need an upgrade, you can just return to the lease company where it will be refurbished for extended use.

Although these steps are functional, you can also use a recycling company to dispose the computer for you. This is one of the trends that have gained popularity recently among consumers leading to the introduction of numerous recycling companies.

Although this option is convenient, it should be taken with care. This is due to various reasons such as the ethical conduct and the legitimacy of the recycle company. Some companies ethical conduct has been questioned since they dump a large number of the computers in developing countries without following the right recycle procedures. Remember, one of the main reasons for recycling is reduction of pollution and this just transfers the problem.

Legitimacy of the company should also be checked since some of the computers especially those which are not functional contain private data left in the hard drives. Such information can be extracted and used for wrongful purposes. One of the best ways to check the legitimacy of the computer repair and recycling company is checking their record keeping procedures. Legitimate companies usually keep comprehensive records of all recycled computers and where each recycle stage took place.
