By Adriana Noton

Selling more than 7 million units in the first year as well as receiving millions of iPad application downloads, the Apple iPad has definitely revolutionized the digital world. Whether it is the average consumer, professionals such as computer programmers and architects, or businesses such as the retail industry, advertising media, and so much more, the Apple iPad has become a tool everyone can use. The iPad is designed for gaming, reading, and numerous media functions. It has definitely changed the way we think about how we use computers.

It is not just the high tech advancements that have made the iPad such an astounding digital achievement, it is also how the device has minimized or eliminated the need for such previously used items as: files, folders, physical keyboards and the mouse. The iPad applications are downloaded from a single source which gives users the ability to simplify purchases and organize updates while ensuring security. The iPad is used to access media and it has such important applications as Keynote, a presentation program compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint, a word processing application compatible with Microsoft Word, and Numbers, a spreadsheet application compatible with Microsoft Excel. There is even a large touch screen. Both students and businesses can use the ipad for much of their mobile computing needs.

The iPad even has accessories that give users the ability to connect it to external points such as a camera connection kit for importing photos, a keyboard dock, and a VGA connector that connects to external monitors and projectors. The iPad also opens up a whole new platform for marketing opportunities as it has an interactive channel that can reach consumers anywhere. It has the ability to effortlessly incorporate ads into media content and specific applications. Apple has recently announced the iAd mobile advertising network. They plan to introduce media advertisements that ensures users remain within an app instead of taking them to another place. It is expected that the iPad is going to impact the computer industry as those who buy the iPad will likely not bother to buy a laptop or notebook because the ipad can do nearly everything a computer and laptop can, however, multitasking is still an issue with the iPad.

When it comes to the gaming industry, the iPad offers many possibilities. Apple has announced a game center service similar to the Xbox. Apple will be bringing popular games to the Apple platform. With the launch of Ibooks, Apple is now competing with the Amazon Kindle. Apple will be offering hundreds of thousands of e-books on their ibooks store. As well, the iPad offers hundreds of more features than Kindle. The ipad also has access to the thousands of apps which are available at the Apple Itunes store.

With millions of people now using the iPad, and many millions more projected iPad sales, the Apple iPad has definitely revolutionized the digital world. It will be fascinating to see what Apple creates in the future which will further revolutionize the digital world and change how we work and play with our cell phones.
