An Easy And Quick Path To Author Marketing

By Glynis James

A lot people get a huge amount of satisfaction out of sitting down and writing a book or creating a piece of art which can be sold as a book. But, books do not just get up and sell and promote themselves. Author marketing is just as important, if not more important than actually doing the work to sit down and write the book in the first place.

This is because there is a huge amount of competition in the book publishing business. It can be quite a cut-throat affair. Only one or two of the hundreds of books which are published every week get to the top of the best seller lists or get the lucrative book deals.

But what makes the difference between a truly successful book and one which does not do quite so well? Is it the story? Is it the idea behind the work? No, in many cases both of these can be just as good in both types of book. Quite often, the winning book has a long, but winning story behind it.

Top selling books may be popular because they are on a topical subject which everyone wants to know about. Or they may have been written by a celebrity or well known author. Or, it may be that the writer, or their agent is a genius at marketing the work properly.

But it can be seen that there never was a time when selling your work was more important than now. There is a lot of stiff competition around. But also, it has to be said, that there are now easier routes than ever before to be able to sell and market a book.

Simply set up a website or a blog which mentions the book. Or join a forum which talks about books and reviews them. There are even online book clubs now which can discuss a book. A website can be used to actually sell the work and to have author interviews and other information. Many websites are used to provide extra material which adds to the work or has an interactive quiz or poll. The possibilities are endless and with a little imagination a lot can be achieved relatively cheaply and quickly.

Digital versions of books are doing better than ever these days and generating plenty of sales. People can read books on tablet pcs, laptops on the move, dedicated book readers, or even on their phones. So they are constantly looking for new and fresh content. It is a very good time to sell and market a book.
