Reviewing the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10B

By Neal Lawrence

One of the best entry level plasma TVs you can currently buy is the moderately priced Panasonic TX-P42X10B. Panasonic delivers high quality home electronics, affordably and this TV is a fine example as to why.

This Panasonic TX-P42X10B television comes in the streamlined, contemporary look you're finding in electronics today. It features a black casing, and is designed to fit into practically any home. Slim in design, it comes in three sizes: 37 inch, 42 inch and 50 inch. It is also not a heavy television, and can easily be moved by a single person.

There are plenty of input/output jacks on this Panasonic TX-P42X10B television to add on any extra items you may want to have. This contains three HDMI slots, is all set up for cable, and SD cards slot and has the typical S-Video and video slots. This Panasonic has the jacks on the back and sides, and placing the cords out of view are relatively simple with this design.

Some plasma TVs have a bit of a waver when viewing them, and Panasonic uses a 100Hz Double Scan technology to remove this from happening. What it does is show two pictures per second, allowing more pictures to be shown at a time and it reduces the wavering. The picture on the screen is excellent and the colour levels are constant, which shows you true colour when viewing. When watching Blu Ray Discs, the images can be a little blurry, and not as precise as with a higher priced model. The Real Black Drive System, however, compensates for this by giving you a true black colour, and leaving out the grey tones many pictures can produce.

Plasma TVs are not as bright as LCD screens available, and you may need to adjust to this. The picture of the plasmas is sharper, and accommodates lower light levels much better then another type of TV.

The audio on the Panasonic TX-P42X10B has one speaker running along the bottom of the TV, and it is not movie quality sound. The speaking is exceptionally easy to understand and it does come with adjustable audio settings, and they do allow changes from speech or music. It will be necessary to improve on the sound if you want a home theatre, and there are plenty of inputs to do this with as stated previously.

Panasonic has introduced an Eco Mode in the Panasonic TX-P42X10B to decrease the amount of energy their electronics use. When the user selects this, it is designed to test lighting conditions of the room though a built in sensor, and if dark enough, lowers the amount of power needed. On the average, it will use about 195W of power while watching it, so the Eco Mode can be environmentally friendly and save you a few cents as well.

It has good sound and a great picture quality. The Panasonic TX-P42X10B is the best plasma television on the market for the money today. Light, and space saving, Panasonic delivers on a high quality electronic product.
