New 3D GIS Software Is Changing The World

By Carlos Railey

New software has been shown in fancy science fiction movies for the past few years. However, what once was a fragment of our imaginations is already here. Technology has made it possible to utilize it for the advancement of our society. 3D GIS now gives us prized information about areas around us and even the whole world.

Geographic information system technology has long been used for developing and planning cities, building various infrastructures, strengthening national defense, and many more uses both for public and private companies. Information gotten from these systems offer valuable data to help improve our community and our society today. As early software might display their scans in 2D, 3D nowadays is beginning to be the standard.

Companies today incorporate three-dimensional GIS software to be used by other companies or government agencies. Like before, the choice of software strongly depends on the preferences of these agencies. Probably two of the most important things to keep in mind would be the usability and the budget for the said software. Since they may be a little expensive, companies should always look for one that would best fit their budget for the GIS software.

The software's usability is also very important. You may have a piece of very valuable software, but if it proves to be too complicated to work with, you may be in danger. Dozens of systems nowadays offer simplicity together with their software, and yet they still value their efficiency when it comes to doing their jobs, making it a win-win situation for both companies.

Other people may be a bit hesitant because of one question: how can 3D GIS software help us to change the world? Answers typically given include the valuable information that they can give which is near-perfect just like what you see in real life. Scans of the insides of infrastructures, the whole plan of the city and how you can plan a certain area by taking into consideration the earth's crust is definitely important data.

Urban development perhaps is a good example. A 3D model of a certain area allows planners to fix the roads and streets, as well as strategically place public buildings, street lights and a whole lot more. Engineers and architects can also see how particular plans can change the city physically and how it can affect the current city now. It allows them to see problems and to correct them, as well.

Truly, 3D GIS software can be the start of a great change for us to see our world in a whole different way.
