A Cricket Broadband Review

By James Keyes

If you want a broadband wireless connection to that Internet that is reliable, inexpensive, and mobile the Cricket modem is your answer. It permits will you to remain connected to the Internet regardless of where you are.

All that is required is a modem and a CD. Both of these items are provided when you sign up for this broadband service. The modem is manufactured by UTStarcom and it is the model is the UM100C. The modem is very small, no larger than a small lighter. It won't get in the way or get knocked out of the USB port. It can be set up easily and has a modest design. All that you have to do is follow the instructions after putting the CD in a laptop and you'll be connected to the Internet in no time. But you need to be careful. To avoid bad things from happening, don't plug in the modem first.

Cricket advertises that the speed of the broadband service is 768 Mb per second which is a good reliable number and rather fast. The modem will pass any tests that it is given. The connection speed is usually approximately 700 Mb per second and won't drop below 550 Mb per second. That's pretty good for a modem that's supposedly discounted. Actually, it performs better than many of the bigger names in the business. The modem holds up well during daily use and the speed and range are excellent.

You won't get kicked off of the Internet on your laptop once you're connected even if you're online for as many as 12 hours each day. The Internet connection won't fail even when your electricity shuts down during huge electrical storms. The only disadvantage to the modem is that you can't forward your port. Most people have no idea what that mean and therefore could care less. But, if you need to share torrent files, you might want to get a different service. This inability of port forwarding may also significantly lower the speed of your downloads.

If you have additional computers that have been activated this Internet service can use all of them. Currently, Cricket broadband has all of the promotions and convenience to go with the service and is offering some great deals. But, before you purchase the modem, you should make sure that there is a good Internet signal in the area that it will be used. If the area is located a dead zone, you won't have any access to the Internet or anything else.
