Using Twitter can be a smart marketing scheme. It is free and becoming increasingly popular. Once you learn to use it, it can pay off extremely well.

Twitter's statistics are phenomenal. It gains more and more users every day at exponential rates. It is expected to reach about 15 million by the end of the year. Any website that grows this fast and has such a wide user base can be very valuable in a marketing plan.

But don't see it as a get rich quick scheme. Learning how to effectively market yourself over any social media takes time, and if you mess up while you are learning, you can shoot yourself in the foot for good.

People's curiosity is what drives Twitter and makes it so successful. People want to know what's going on around them, and twitter provides a simple platform for spreading short messages in a short amount of time.

Keep the conversations very simple and you can successfully communicate with your followers are offering them assistance and information. Twitter by its very nature is simple, so you don't want to spew a bunch of technical jargon at people.

It will intimidate people if you use a bunch of technical words and long paragraphs in your tweets. Be personal with your clients; make them feel comfortable by conversing about movies, weekend activities, pets, etc. Regularly ask people for suggestions and advice too.

This can potentially increase your followers drastically. Building solid business relationships and relationships with your clients is key to any business; this is no different when it comes to Twitter.

Don't try to directly sell yourself on Twitter. People don't use social networking sites be badgered by sales pitches; it's important to be sneaky about it and get your word in indirectly. This prevents you from losing a lot of customers.

Indirectly driving traffic to your website through YouTube, blogs, and articles can be explosive ways to expand your network. Good links will be re-tweeted and go viral from there.
