Ways To Obtain Cell Phone Contracts With A Poor Credit Rating

By Max Pigford

It is impossible to leave your home these days, and not see someone walking around with a cell phone up to their ear, or vigorously texting on one of these devices. Even though it may seem like everyone owns a phone and you don't, you are not alone when it comes to this fact. Bad credit can hold you back from obtaining cell phone contracts, but there are ways to get around this.

Before signing a contract with a carrier for a cellular service agreement, it is important that you know what you are getting yourself into. Before being awarded a contract with a provider, the provider will run a credit check on you. If they determine that your credit does not suffice, you may have to pay extra to be able to sign a contract with the company.

People who have poor credit will be asked to either purchase the handset that they desire or pay a deposit before their contract can be started. By paying a deposit, you will be giving the provider reassurance that you will be able to make your monthly payments on your cellular plan on time. Deposits show good faith that you are attempting to get your credit on the right track.

The deposit amount that you may be asked to pay will depend greatly on your credit rating and the carrier that you are interested in signing a contract with. Some carriers will agree to return the deposit that you paid at the beginning of your contract, if you are able to pay your bills on time for your service. However, if you default anytime during your contract period, you may not get the amount you put down back.

It is important that you thoroughly review over your contract with the carrier you choose to sign an agreement with. It is better to be informed of what could possibly happen if you miss a payment, then assuming what will happen.

The only other option aside from signing a contract with a company is to obtain a prepaid phone. Prepaid devices are becoming extremely popular due to the credit crunch. However, the prepaid options are not always the best options for some people.

Although the steps of obtaining cell phone contracts with bad credit may be extensive, they are well worth it. Having a contract can save you money on your bill, while also helping you rebuild your poor history. Make sure you investigate all avenues before signing a contract.
