Comparing Car Chargers and Home Chargers for the Motorola Atrix

By Gareth Jale

Nothing has grown so fast in popularity technologically than the smart phone. The modern descendant of the cell phone, the smart phone has quickly risen to the top in the ranks of portable consumer electronic devices, and collectively they are about as popular as portable music players, which makes sense when you consider how many people also use their smart phones to play music while on the go. However, the extra features of smart phones also exerts a heavy toll on their batteries, and if you don't have a spare battery or an extra charger, you might soon find yourself without power in a dire situation. This article will discuss the differences between home battery chargers and car battery chargers for smart phones such as the Motorola Atrix.

The one thing to keep in mind with a home and car charger is that both of their goal is to charge your battery. They simply go about it through slightly different means; with car battery chargers, the battery is charged through a connection to the car via the cigarette lighter. This uses DC electricity, which is what powers all of the other electronic devices in the car, and it is supplied by the large DC battery that powers the car itself.

Conversely, a home battery charger is powered by AC, which is the format of electricity that all of the devices you plug into wall sockets run from. Because the technology for AC is slightly simpler than the technology for DC, you will typically find DC car battery chargers to be a little more expensive, on average, than AC battery chargers. Don't let the difference between the types of chargers deter you from buying both types of chargers.

You might also want to look into accessories such as external battery packs to power your device. An external battery pack can be used virtually anywhere on the go to provide your Atrix a quick boost of power. A good external battery will help preserve the life of the original battery that ships with the smart phone, which will save you a good amount of money in the long run.

Beyond the purchase of additional batteries and chargers, you might also want to look into accessories tilted toward safety, such as a screen protector or case. While neither of these accessories will help preserve your phone's battery, they'll still keep your phone properly maintained.

After all, a good battery is no use in a dead phone, and if your phone falls and splits into many pieces during a moment of mindlessness, no amount of battery power will bring it back. You might also want to consider purchasing a high quality Bluetooth wireless headset, as this will allow you to talk without hands or wires, which will also help increase the safety factor while you use the phone when walking or driving.
