Review of the Sony KDL19S5720

By Alex May

If you're looking for a compact yet highly functional portable television, look no further than the Sony KDL19S5720. This little unit is a really handy machine to have around the house - or on vacation, for that matter. It's size and convenient detachable handle make it super simple to move to other rooms if someone is watching the main TV. At 19 inches it is HD ready and in many ways just as capable and pleasant to watch a set twice it's size. What else does it have to offer?:

DESIGN:

The Sony KDL19S5720 is also very stylish. The colors are subtle and its sleek arched design looks magnificent. Conveniently, it boasts a great looking illuminated digital clock that displays on the bottom of the TV so you never lose track of the time. It can also even be mounted up on a wall to save space, not that it takes up much on its own!

FEATURES:

As for the features, the Sony KDL19S5720 lets you do more than simply watch TV. You can hook it up to your digital camera or use a USB thumb drive to see your pics in dazzling detail on the photo viewer. With the two HDMI(TM) inputs, you can also connect an MP3 player to play music or an HD console to watch movies or play games. In addition, with the integrated standard definition digital terrestrial tuner, Freeview makes it easy to enjoy up to 48 free digital channels and with no subscription.

And as far as the quality of the viewing experience goes, a really nice feature on the Sony KDL19S5720 is Scene Select, which lets you simply touch a button on the remote control and change any of the sound and picture settings that would work best with the program you're watching. This allows you to get the most naturalistic and dynamically effective viewings.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The technical specs of this Sony KDL19S5720 product are impressive as well. For a television set of this size it certainly has an amazing picture quality. The Bravia Engine and a Dynamic Contrast proportion of nearly 8.000:1 deliver awesome detail and image depth. The design is a little less than the bigger Sony models, but it is tough to identify any degradation as the higher contrast proportion, etc, would make no obvious difference on a nineteen inch Television.

Live Color picks out the most insidious shades and lifelike colors while 24p True Cinema makes sure you may enjoy a genuine film experience - just as, it is certain, the picture's director intended.

The sound quality is also a great complement to the picture. With Dolby digital 2x5W speakers, the audio is crisp, clear and smooth.

USABILITY:

As far as usability goes, the only complaint is the remote control, which is a bit complicated at first to use and does take some getting used to. Other than that, however, the on screen menu and the Electronic Program Guide on the Sony KDL19S5720 are easily navigated.

The set-up on the Sony KDL19S5720 is pretty basic and it is easy to get up and running quickly. Ready to enjoy all this great machine has to offer!

Whether as a gift just in time for the holidays, or for personal use, the Sony KDL19S5720 is a useful and quality product at a great price.
