The Sony KDL32W550 0U - Worth Considering

By Michelle Rich

There is a huge range of Sony Bravia LCD TV's and the KDL32W550 0U is one of these, and they are at the top of the range. Although the'20x1080p Full HD panel is now pretty standard, the "W" series displays was one of the first.

These feature full LCD televisions are very affordable and this particular KDL32W550 0U model has 4 HDMI inputs as well as Applicast, which enables the unit to be connected to the internet. A USB port allows for handling of all types of photo, video or music files and it also comes with an Ethernet jack with which DLNA PC files can be stored, or can be used for the Applicast service.

100Hz Motionflow technology, together with engine imaging from the Bravia range makes for a brilliant, quality TV. Retailers are moving these KDL32W550 0U tv sets fast at really great prices and this is part of the charm of buying this top of the range television set. Everyone wants one, because they know they are getting a good deal!

The attractively framed KDL32W550 0U screen is a generous 32" and is more than adequate, it looks more compact because of the glossy black bevel surround. Take care of scratching, although the television does come packed with protective covers on the scratchable surfaces. These glossy surfaces look good, but much like mobile phones which are also packed with protective coverings they also get scratched with heavy use.

This is a compact 32" television set with a relatively small footprint so if you are short on space, it may be ideal for your use. I think it is a great looking tv, although I have seen some reviewers say that they prefer the looks of the 32E5500 model to the KDL32W550 0U. It is all a matter of taste really and if you think it looks good, you are the one who has to live with it.

Wega Gate menus feature on most Sony TV models, but not on this particular KDL32W550 0U model. It makes use of icons, much like the Playstation 3. For some people this is a much more user friendly interface and it is definitely innovative. But if you prefer the more traditional menu interface it may be confusing. The way I think a picture paints a thousand words and I find it easier to use.

It may take you time to get use to the menu, but at least you will have fun messing around. If you are technologically inclined, you won't have issues but the older generation may not know what the hang is going on when they try to tv set the contrast on the KDL32W550 0U. I would not hand this remote over to my 75 year old father to use. Hide it under the cushions in the couch and pretend you have lost it.

The video processor on the KDL32W550 0U works fine as far as I am concerned, I don't really know much about the technicalities of this. So read the tech specs if you want to know more. Mine works, the picture is fine and I get a fantastic quality picture with videos and DVD's on Thursday night Chick Flick night, so I am more than happy!

The Sony Bravia KDL32W550 0U is a great top of the range Sony model, it works perfectly with my decor and was exactly the right price for me. It blends well with my modern/art deco style furniture, and fits beautifully into the corner that has been awaiting its arrival.
