When Not to Send a Text Message

By Nia Lawrence

It's really hard to imagine how to do things these days without a cell phone or mobile phone. Because of this technological invention, it's a lot easier for people nowadays to communicate with one another. Due to its popular use, however, some people think that they can use a mobile phone anytime and anywhere. They don't seem to be aware that there are some unwritten rules to be observed when using this device.

Simply because a cell phone is a basic need like food, the use of it has to be regulated, too. For example, there are some people who use their cell phones inside a church or other holy places. While most people inside these places want to nourish their spirituality, there are times when they just can't help feeling irate. Why? Because some people beside them did not put their phones in silent mode. Thus, every time they receive a computer SMS, everybody in the place gets distracted as they are forced to listen to ring tones or message alert tones. Now, if you are in a church trying to be decent, how would you feel if the person next to you suddenly receives a text message with a message alert tone of Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body"?

You must also not send a text message when you are extremely angry. When you are engulfed in anger, your mind is so clouded that you cannot think properly. If you have been angered by a text message that you received, never reply all at once. Relax and try to rationalize things in the best of your capacity. Who knows if you just misinterpreted things? Sometimes, text messages can be taken in a bad light, when in fact, they may mean otherwise when spoken.

As most cell phones have pre-installed games, some people can't help but feel addicted to playing these games. As a result, they become so engrossed that they don't give a damn to what's happening around them. Furthermore, because of these games, some people tend to gamble. They challenge their friends to bet and beat them. Of course, this betting and gambling do not only happen to those who are addicted to cell phone games but to those who play other electronic games, too.

The technology of text messaging is definitely a blessing. Therefore, we must make use of this blessing not just for our own benefit but for others, too. After all, a cell phone and text messaging should help us achieve better communication; with better communication comes understanding and harmony.
