By Ganesh Mhatre

We all know that good communication is one of the most important skills you should have for life and certainly for business. It is very important for an organization to communicate with their customers and employees. In the past, this form of communication was face to face meetings, letters and telephone conversations. But with changing times, most communication has shifted to the midline.

Email is a very big part of our lives today. But when email was first introduced, there were very few services that offered email accounts. These were services like Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and AOL. These days there are a vast number of email providers. These offer unlimited space, spam protection, large size for attachments and even phone access.

These service providers are very good for personal use. But when it comes to internet business, it is not as convenient to use.

So the Internet business, most business is conducted via email. A range of activities can be done by phone. But the majority of online customers want to respond with the organization on the Internet.

An organization can use commercially available e-mail. But often the server problems or stop-off resulting in lost sales and poor customer service. A great personal frustration also stems from when one is unable to work due to technical difficulties.

This is where email hosting saves the day. An email hosting service offers to perform email functions for customers. These functions can be as basic as send and receive and as complicated as database processing and global searching. Simply put it is an internet hosting service that runs email servers. These services offer premium email at a certain cost. They are different from other free webmail services because they do not rely on advertising.

Email hosting services cater mostly to small or medium sized businesses. A large organization would probably run their own hosting servers. A service provider that provides such services must necessarily agree to keep its clients` email accounts secure. It would also ensure that the servers on which those email accounts are stored are reliable. The service provider will also store all of the customers` email archives on its own servers. It is important that they have a good backup system and offer prompt technical support.

Certain large companies like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft offer free email hosting services. Only the most basic services are offered for free. The more complicated needs, especially storage of email messages, are charged to the customer.
