Designer Carrera Sunglasses

By Aaliyah Walker

Competing at the highest level requires a lot of skill, but at this level you also need to ensure that all of your senses are in their proper working order. When it comes to mountain climbing or skiing at a competitive level, you are competing in some of the most dangerous sports in the world and at this level you need to ensure that you have clear vision so that you are able to perform your sports to the best of your ability.

For over fifty years the Carrera brand has been manufacturing sunglasses and although their market share is quite widespread today, the company originated by creating a range of sunglasses that could be worn while competing in a whole range of adventure sports.

Created in the late 1950's in Austria it is not hard to see why skiing was such a focus of the brand. The winter time saw most Austrians flock to the ski slopes and there was a huge shortage of eyewear that was needed to keep skier's eyes protected while competing. At the start many people didn't realise why sunglasses were so important at the snow but gradually it became a more and more popular fashion accessory.

Although many people feel that the cool climate that comes with the snow means that there is little risk of sun damage, this is actually incorrect. Skiing can actually cause twice as much damage to the eyes as just regular sunbathing, this is mainly due to the reflection of the sun's rays off the snow or ice which can actually make them twice as harmful and likely to damage the retina of the eye.

It's not just skiers that need sunglasses for protection however, mountain climbers also seek protection from sunglasses to not only protect them from the sun, but also to protect them from any falling rocks or stones which might fall into their eyes while they are climbing. These falling rocks can be incredibly dangerous as they could cause the climber to potentially fall as he or she attempts to remove the rocks from their eyes, therefore causing the potential for serious injury or death.
