Tired with finding the remotes of every electronic gadgets? Then a universal remote control comes as an effortless solution. In general, a universal remote is a remote control that can be easily programmed to operate numerous brands and one or more types of electronics devices such as Tv, music system, Air-conditioners and numerous other devices.

Generally, the low-end universal remotes can just control a fixed number of gadgets pre defined by their manufacturer, while the mid- and high-end remote controls allow the user to set in new control codes to the remote for controlling a number of other devices.

The universal remote controls can be broadly classified in two kinds like:

Device Based Universal Remote Controls

Most universal remotes that are available these days are device based and they are very popular. The use of the device-based remote control is basic and the owner has to press a button associated with the preferred device to control after which uses the other buttons to control that single gadget.

Activity Based Remote Control

These types of the universal remotes are programmed to work on the idea of activities and not on the devices. In this, rather than controlling every gadget individually, the individual can concentrate on the activity that they wish to perform. For instance, the user might want to watch a movie, or listen to certain music, or just watch Tv.

It's when a particular activity is chosen that the universal remote control might send out the necessary signals and commands to various required devices in to switch on and to configure device to achieve the preferred activity. For instance selecting an action like watch a movie, the remote control may switch on the Tv, configure the Television to the DVD video input, switch on the amplifier, configure the amplifier to the DVD audio input, switch on the DVD player, and start the DVD playing.

The quest with the universal remote control just does not stop there, but can continue with the upgradations that are needed with the modifying electronic devices. That's why numerous universal controls permit the code lists programmed into the remote to be updated to support new brands or models of gadgets not presently supported by the remote.
