Keychain Cameras -- You Would Never Believe It!

By Steve Thibeault

In reality, the applications for hidden cameras are only limited by the human imagination and we have seen an amazing variety of places and items that can house a hidden camera for your covert recording needs. People have all manner of reasons for recording, within a personal or business environment, but they should make sure they do not fall foul of any regulations governing the recording of people's actions or voices without their knowledge.

If you are planning some hidden surveillance you obviously want to be sure that the targeted party is not aware that this is taking place. For best effect, you should conceal the camera within an everyday item that would not arouse suspicion at any time. Make sure that the item you are going to use is one that would ordinarily appear within your chosen room.

If you think about it, a set of keys does not look out of place under any circumstances. After all, we have all been known to leave keys on desks, shelves, counters, tables and any number of places. Keychain cameras are therefore a great example of technology that can help you achieve your goal. As they look exactly like a remote key fob, but contain a camera with audio and video, they will not appear out of place.

If you have a situation that you want to record in a particular room, just leave a set of keys attached to a keychain camera in an ideal place within the room. You will then be able to record everything that happens, so long as you point the lens in the correct direction. Up to 8 GB of audiovisual files can be recorded within the unit without arousing any suspicion at all.

Amazingly, the standard keychain camera can record for up to three hours as it has a miniature DVR with flash memory included within. If you simply attach the camera to a personal computer by using the included USB cord you can transfer the permanent memory or view whatever is recorded through software that supports AVI technology.

Standalone, miniature surveillance cameras are specifically designed so that they do not have to rely on cables, attachments, external drivers or other power sources. This flexibility opens up their use within any number of situations and environments for best effect.

Don't expect a keychain camera to give you perfect high-resolution imagery and note that you are using it for a specific purpose. The output is quite reasonable, however as the camera records at 29 frames per second and its video resolution is set at 640x480. If you are looking for very high quality output you probably need to select a regular camera, but remember your purpose.

Choose wisely when you are selecting a hidden camera contained within an everyday item. There is a great deal of choice and you should be able to find something for every conceivable environment. Don't be tempted to choose an illuminated "exit" sign hidden camera if you are going to use it within your home, as these are only seen in public places and would be sure to arouse suspicion!
