My older brother, now living in Sacramento, used to be what some might consider a garage sale addict. Every Saturday morning would find him plying the neighborhoods for hidden treasures in the form of others' cast-offs. He always got 'a good deal' and almost everything he acquired found its way to the garage. The garage was FULL.
When he came home one day with a new collection I noticed several leaflet holders among the booty. I wondered what they were for and he mentioned they came at a great price - free. He'd surely find some use for them.
When I asked what the advertising displays were for he explained that he was planning his OWN garage sale soon and that these would help him advertise the event. That sounded like a good idea all around, especially if it meant clearing out a space for me to park my car. A triple-car garage should have enough room for at least one vehicle, right?
Well, before too much time had passed he met the love of his life and moved out of his house and into hers. She already had all of the furniture and appliances they needed so I was fortunate in having all that left behind for me to use. I also inherited the garage full of garage sale castoffs, which he guaranteed he would deal with as soon as he could.
True as usual to his word he showed up with a big truck and started packing it full of the garage's contents to relocate to a rented storage locker. He needed two, full-sized ones. I was finally able to drive my car into one of the bays and had room for my motorcycle too. It was great.
My brother was also nice enough to leave some of his clothes behind when he left. All neatly arrayed on sturdy wooden hangers, I was pleased to find we were still the same size (and still have similar taste in apparel). I wondered if he'd mind if I borrowed that leather jacket! The answer was, "No," he didn't mind and I was given permission to use anything left behind as though it were my own. That's a very cool brother.
I've moved halfway around the world now, from Sacramento to Cebu, and all that stuff's been long left behind. He had to come to the house, of course, and remove everything when it was time for me to go. That's where the two storage lockers come into play. When you've got too much stuff to fit into your house, you might have TOO much stuff!
