How To Get A Free Cell Phone

By Jimmy Chu

The cost of owing a cell phone can be quite high. Most cell phone plans can cost anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks a month. For a lot of poor folks, this is just too expensive.

But cell phones are quite common place these days. Nearly everyone carries a cell phone. Although it may seem like cell phones are frivolous, it can actually be a very good thing to have in cases of emergencies. Because of the benefits of having a cell phone, the government sponsors free cell phones for people that need it.

Household income is the determining factor for whether or not you get a phone. The income level is set by the government and is different forth each state. If you are getting government assistance, then getting a phone should be no problem.

With a free cell phone, you also get free minutes. The minutes that you get every month is about an hour depending on your location. An hour of talk time is not much so if you run out and need more, you have to buy more minutes.

Since the program is for people who are needy, once you pass the poverty limit then you will not be able to continue using the program. The service provider will check your household income every year.

To join the cell phone program, find a provider online. Check with them to see if they are operating the program in your state. Usually, they will list the states that they do operate in.

Fill out the application and apply for the cell phone. Give the cell phone provider copies of statements showing your household income.

Once you get signed up in the program, check your minute usage each month. They do not give you many minutes so if you run out for the month then you are out unless you buy more minutes.
