Ham Radio: Find Out Facts About This Interesting Hobby

By Wendy Racklave

The first ham radio that was distributed for sale was at some point during the 1920's. The first one that worked without wires came out twenty years later, people could use it so that they were able to speak to each other, and send important information if needed. It was used in a similar way as you would a walkie talkie, however the ham radio has many more benefits, for one it has a much wider range. Since the first one was created modern technology has advanced yet they are still going strong.

The ham radio is a cheaper way of keeping in touch with others who can use the same frequency as yourself, they run on frequencies that are not being used by radio stations and emergency services, you can sometimes pick them up but it is illegal to listen into on such information.

Even though technology has advanced since the ham radio was invented, many people still rely on it as it can prove more reliable in situations that are beyond our control fail, meaning we are not able to communicate for help as well as in areas that mobile phones have no coverage. With the invention of the internet, it was originally thought that there would be no longer a market for the ham radio, however it still had it's uses and was not to become insignificant.

Although the internet changed the way in which most of the world now communicates, the ham radio technology still plays a big part in keeping in touch with others by improving the quality on the frequency of internet radio stations and similar. By working hand in hand the old and the new, both technologies are able to give you the best signal possible.

If you are like many people curious of how things work, then you can buy parts and kits which will enable you to build your own ham radio from simple parts. Another useful benefit to one of these kits is that you will be able to know how to fix a simple problem should things go wrong.

The difference between a ham radio and a commercial radio is that a commercial radio and the people who use it do so in order to make money where as the ham radio is not a profit making device it is a free way to communicate once you have paid for the initial equipment.

In order to use a ham radio you will have to have a license. Although this is the same as with a C. B type radio communication the benefit of having a ham radio means that you will be able to have access to more frequencies which will mean you are able to communicate on a larger scale and with much better quality, there are a lot more limitations with C. B communication. Choose a product that has been going strong for almost a century rather than one that will be out of fashion in the next few months.
