NEC Phone Systems, Now and Then

By Steven P. Garrison

NEC was born in 1898 and was commonly known as Nippon Electrical Limited Partnership. It was made by partners Kunihiko Iwadare and Takeshiro Maeda. Subsequent to the formation of the cooperation with Western Electric Company (Walter Carleton as the representative), NEC phone systems became the first Japanese company that used foreign investments. Carleton, Iwadare and Maeda were apparently the pas of NEC.

NEC phone systems started with the production, sales and maintenance of telephones and switches. At first, the expansion wasn't that impressive even with the help of the Ministry of Communications. After 8 years of operating, NEC phone systems customers were only 95,000 in number. Later the company focused on the export of telephones to China and Korea which helped their sales to increase.

In the year 1912, sales increased shockingly to 2 million yen. However , this triumph didn't last long. This was generally due to the consequent delay in enlargement, which made their sales plummet by 60%. In 1916, the Ministry of Communications ultimately allowed their proposed development plan, which allowed NEC to grow in the time when Japanese firms weren't doing well.

Almost ten years after the recovery, NEC phone systems was again faced with a crisis. In 1923, has a grand total of four NEC factories were demolished in a tremor which rubbed out hundreds of NEC staff. Due to this, the Ministry of Communications approved programs to get the telecommunication industry back on target.

Unending issues for NEC phone systems continued on into the beginning of World War Ii when factories became controlled by army in 1938. However , NEC slowly regained its civilian control when the war was over.

After this series of problems, NEC phone systems began a remarkable expansion in business ventures and services. With worldwide expansion in the sixties and seventies, NEC phone systems invaded the telefone industry in US in 1978. And, as one says, the rest is history. A FortiVoice Phone system is a very good alternative to an NEC Phone system if your in need of an upgrade or replacement
