How Hosted PBX Can Make Communication In A Business More Reliable

By Ernest B. Fondren

PBX and hosted PBX systems are commonly used by businesses that have several phone lines or numbers associated with the company. There is a single primary line that the business employs and then there are many other extensions or branches that hook up to the main line. Multiple phone lines don't need to be run into the building using this kind of system. Even with multiple extensions on the same line, there are no busy signals and the many lines to do not interfere with each other. When the customer calls the primary line, the call can easily be transferred to the correct extension.

When this type of system is used over a web connection or VoIP it is known as a hosted PBX. Lots of companies opt for this type of service because it means that they can make all of their calls through an internet connection, and if necessary they can use the phone from any location that has access to the internet. Since the only equipment that is needed is a computer and internet connection, this type of phone system is usually less expensive to install and maintain.

Companies should be able to provide one phone number for customers to give them a call on. This eliminates the confusion that could be produced with several different phone numbers floating around. With a primary number, customers can call and either ask to be transferred to the appropriate extension or they can enter the extension (if they know it) to immediately access the right number.

With a hosted PBX system, each extension can be given its own voice mail box for directing missed calls. The person or department that goes to the extension will then be able to receive messages from missed calls. If there is only one voice mail box for the whole business then there could be a lot of confusion when trying to sort the calls out. People will be able to obtain their own messages and respond to them in a timely manner.

In order to ensure that the main number is not tied up and customers do not hear a busy signal, businesses will need to have several different phone lines available. Incorporating hosted PBX into a business' phone system can save the company money and provide easy accessibility to all employees. Business voice mail boxes at each extension ensure that customers are responded to quickly and that employees can communicate with each other. Overall, this type of system can help to promote effective communication across the board.
