You Can Save On Your Phone Bill When You Use Virtual Numbers

By Eddie O. Mowbray

I have recently learned that virtual numbers save a lot of folks thousands of dollars each year. Just give me a few minutes and I think you'll be convinced. Many people reside in cities, towns or countries that are far away from their friends and family members. And, if you're like me, money has been tight as a result of recent economic times. How do you go about keeping in touch with your family and saving money simultaneously? The answer is found in virtual numbers.

You can easily have a home-town number that your friends, family and loved ones can use to keep in touch with you. This call won't cost them any more than it would if you lived locally. I know this doesn't seem possible, and you're probably waiting for the punch line.

However, many families are taking advantage of this type of technology. Virtual numbers are for anyone who wants one, including college students, immigrants working abroad or businesses who have employees or affairs in different countries. So, how do you get access to this very useful technology?

You'd be amazed at how cheaply you can acquire them. Many online messaging services or VoIP telephone service providers can set you up with a number. For example, you can acquire a number with Google Voice, Skype, Vonage and a host of others. And when you compare the price to that of traditional phone services, you'll wallet will thank you.

The only disadvantage that I've experienced is that emergency service calls aren't the same. These numbers are virtual, so they are associated with the address that you listed when you signed up for the service. For example, you may have signed up for service in California, but now you have moved to Central America. When you transfer (take) the number with you, remember to update your new location with your service provider. And in the event that you must make a 911 call, just make sure that you give your current location to the emergency operator.

Once my family and friends discovered how much cash they were saving, they have gotten virtual numbers, too. This is a great deal, and it doesn't hurt that it's easy on the budget. And, now, we don't have to plan our calls at a particular time of day, or on a particular day of the week. My mom calls so much, I have to find reasons to get her off the phone. Now, this is technology at its absolute best!
