Improper Venues Where a Cell Phones Should Not Be Used

By Gareth Jale

Perhaps the most obvious place where it is still generally frowned upon to use a smart phone is inside a house of worship such as a church, mosque, temple, or synagogue. While the specific rules will vary from one place of worship to the next, it is generally accepted that when people are in such places, they should turn their phone off or at the very least to silent. This is to prevent disturbance of what many people consider to be a sacred venue. Even if you do not share the particular beliefs of the venue in which you are situated, it is still a good show of courtesy to put your phone on silent or to preferably turn it off.

Additionally, it is usually frowned upon to use phones even if they are silenced while in places of worship, as it suggests a person is not fully involved in appreciating the sacredness of the location. If you need to take a call, just step outside and answer your call. It is better to step out than to be asked to leave because you were disrespectful.

Similarly, when you go to a movie theater, most people will expect you to turn off your smart phone or at least to place it on silent. If your phone was to ever ring you would most definitely get mean looks from the rest of the people trying to enjoy the movie. Unfortunately, texting has also become more common in theaters during movies, but this also tends to be frowned upon due to the bright glow of the phone's display.

The best and easiest solution is to just turn of your phone during any movie. You should also try to keep your phone on silent or turned off while in a fancy restaurant, as most people will not take kindly to the interruption there either.

As you can see, there are a number of places where it would still be a poor idea to break out a cell phone. That said, you can still look into several of the many accessories that are available for purchase, including a screen protector, a case, and maybe an extra battery too. Whether or not you use the Atrix in a particular place, it is always handy to provide it with some extra protection through a case. Similarly, your screen will thank you for a screen protector, as it will cost you far less than the purchase of a new screen.
