Listen, I love talking on the phone as much as the next person. What I hate is when people call you and don't leave a message. This drives me crazy! Seriously, they obviously called for a reason, but yet they don't tell me why? It's so irritating, and it's one of the biggest initial reasons why I started using a reverse number lookup online.
I seriously feel like this is a necessity now that I use it. This is especially true when I use my cell phone. I get so many freaking calls where people don't leave a message. The worst part about it is, the cell phones don't have immediate caller id. So, since I'm one of those "need-to-know" people, it's definitely a distraction when it occurs. In order to get to the bottom of it I have to use the old reverse number lookup system.
Granted, it's not so bad that I stop everything to find out, but I do just the number down or save it in my phone to check later. When I'm in front of the computer again I simply type in the reverse telephone lookup site, grab the number and type it in to their database, and get a whole bunch of information back. Seriously, I only want the people behind the calls, but there is so much more I didn't realize. Things like ages, amount of people in household, and other off-the-wall information I wasn't expecting.
They don't just give you a name and number. Instead, you basically get a background history of their last 5 years. It's crazy, but very effective. This extra information actually helped me get in touch with my sister-in-law. Her and my brother were over at her parent's house trying to call me from the home phone.
Needless to say I had no idea whose number it was, so I looked it up on the reverse number lookup site. Once the name and the address popped with family members I gave them a call back (they just wanted to know who was in that new movie The Box).
And now and again I've been tempted-though I haven't done it yet-to plug a number I've seen on a bathroom stall wall into the reverse telephone lookup just because "inquiring minds want to know!" Don't worry. I haven't actually done it! (I don't usually remember to jot the number down. It's not like I have anything to write with at that time!)
To be honest, I kind of feel like a detective, and it's possible I missed my calling. I guess it's never too late, and I'm sure detectives, P.I.s, and the guy from that show "Cheaters" has his hands on a reverse number lookup service. I'm pretty sure I need to change my name to Sherlock Holmes.
