Five Ways To Sell On Phone

By Anne Weaver

One of the most powerful technologies every used by man is the phone. From being a simple avenue for interpersonal communication, the telephone has progressed into a intricate medium for marketing and advertising over the years. Whether you are taking calls for customer service or sales, one astonishing fact remains: the telephone holds the potential to be a powerful, cost-effective marketing medium if you use it to your advantage.

Doing outbound calls? Taking inbound calls? Well, it doesn't really matter what you do. What matters is how you can devise a telemarketing strategy that works for you. Your phone handling skills define who you are in the eyes of your customers. Your phone demeanor affects their perception of you and your company.

If you start off on the wrong foot, then things might never progress beyond the initial call. As there's no point of recovery for conversations, it's necessary for you to pave the way for a great start as soon as you pick up the phone and get the conversation rolling. Inability to engage your customers on the phone can be hurtful to your brand in the future. Here are effective sell on phone techniques to help you achieve phone marketing success with confidence.

1. Be your best. Having a pleasant demeanor can help you strike a lovely connection between you and your customers.

2. Pause and smile. Smiling before answering the phone works two-fold. It diminishes your negative energies and engages your customers.

3. Use of positive language is a must. Affirmative language shows courtesy and respect to customers, and therefore grants them the positive strokes they seek.

4. Answer every customer concern with delight. Listen intently to what your customers have to say, and if possible, resolve their dilemmas by generating customised, personal responses.

5. Avoid fillers. A steady gush of um, eh, er and uh is a major turn off. Exaggerated use of fillers while communicating is considered to be the most, if not one of the most, exasperating speech habit, and it ultimately makes you look unprepared.
