It works well and holds on tight. My phone hasn't fallen a single time.
The Charging plug is open too just in case you want to plug your phone it while you use the GPS to keep your battery going. The Arkon car mount is definitely best in its price range. It's still usable for now, but I think in another month or two, I'll probably have to switch over to using the dash mount. I like the fact that the item included both the windshield and vent mount. It's not a particularly attractive piece of equipment, but it does what it's designed to do. Three stars may be unfair; I'm comparing it to the old droid mount, not to other squeeze mounts. Other than that, great product I use this case with my EVO. I have it clipped to my vent and I have not had a problem with it yet. My wife has this for her incredible, it's the best thing she is going to get for it, but if you have a droid x (Motorola), go with the Motorola accessory, it's much better. This is a nice little generic car mount that works quite well.
This thing is not cheaply made. It IS well put together. When I decided to give my phone a break, my friend put his sprint Evo 4g in and it worked perfectly with that also. The swivel allowed the driver and the passenger to both use it pretty easily.
I'm considering purchasing another one, but I'm definitely having doubts. It works perfect with my HTC EVO, even with the Otterbox Defender. For vent mounting it is WORTHLESS! The "alligator clips" are 100% plastic. It also holds my HTC Droid Incredible and my wife's Droid 2 perfectly.
I tried every possible orientation of the phone, and none would allow access to all phone ports and power button. That said, the modification was not a big deal, and the holder works fine. Holds my Samsung Captivate phone secure and stays on the dash or vent. I was able to rotate the mount in all kind of ways, until I secured it the way I want. I actually use this attached to my CD player section as I never use it. It works just as well as it did on the AC vent (I moved it because it gets way too hot here to only have one vent pointed at you and I felt bad using the passenger side vent).
It was easy to put it in and take it out of the holder. A couple times the mount slid apart in the sideways position, but this may be due to user error in not fully and securely sliding the two pieces together.
