Too Good to be True? Free Laptops with Mobile Broadband

By Robin Helliwell

Free laptop deals with mobile broadband are usually not worth the money. Think carefully before taking out one of these deals. In many cases you end up paying extra in the long run. Free laptop bundles are not bad for people who do not have the cash to purchase everything upfront. This will allow you to make payments over time.

One of the first qualifications involved in obtaining such a 'freebie,' is the two year or 24 month contract to obtain Mobile Broadband service and the amount of the premium in the bill each month. This all sounds normal until noticing that the monthly charge for the service with the Free Laptop included is twice the amount charged without it.

Depending on what deals you can find you could very well be paying double what the laptop is actually worth, or sometimes less than it would cost for you to go out and buy it without the contract. The main objective of these "free laptop" kind of deals is to allow an opportunity for someone who does not have enough money to purchase the laptop outright, to be able to spread the cost of the laptop out over the length of their contract.

It is a good idea to try and figure out how much the laptop is worth before diving into one of these contracts. Sometimes you could end up paying a little more than the laptop is worth, and sometimes you might pay a little extra or double what the laptop is worth.

It is important to consider the terms of these offers and how they will affect the budget and use of the laptop over 24 months. It is very alluring for people of low income to think that they will get a free laptop if they sign up. But not considering that there is a limit as low as 1G for downloads, could result in overage charges on data downloads, which could become difficult if not impossible to pay each month. Keep in mind, the longer the contract, the fewer the choices for staying up to date on broadband usage, cheaper rates and faster service.
